Position Summary:
The Surgical Coordinator will play a key role in managing the pre-operative and post-operative experience for cataract surgery patients. This individual will be the primary point of contact for patients undergoing surgery, ensuring clear communication, accurate scheduling, and a seamless process from consultation to post-op care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all aspects of cataract surgeries including scheduling procedures, pre-op testing, and post-op follow-up.
- Educate patients on surgical steps, lens options (standard and premium IOLs), financial responsibilities, and recovery expectations.
- Submit authorizations, referrals, and required documentation to insurance providers; monitor approval status and resolve issues as needed.
- Obtain and track medical clearances from primary care providers and specialists.
- Communicate with surgery centers and internal teams to ensure complete surgical readiness.
- Accurately input and maintain documentation in the practice’s electronic health record (EHR).
- Provide cost estimates, collect surgical deposits, and explain financing options when applicable.
- Assist with rescheduling and cancellations while maintaining optimal patient satisfaction.
- Serve as a patient advocate and resource throughout the surgical journey.
Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in a surgical coordinating role, preferably in ophthalmology.
- Strong knowledge of cataract surgery workflow, lens implants (monofocal, multifocal, toric), and insurance billing requirements.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex procedures in patient-friendly terms.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency with EHR systems (e.g., NextGen, Compulink, or similar) and Microsoft Office.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
