Description
Under the direction of the YMCA Reads! Program Director, the YMCA Reads! Program Specialist will be responsible for all aspects of the hybrid YMCA Reads! program at their assigned school including, but not limited to, implementing specialized literacy curriculum, developing and providing literacy instruction, and completing administrative duties as needed. The YMCA Reads! Program Specialist will drive superior program quality by enhancing participant experience specifically in the areas of achievement, relationships, and belonging.
Critical areas of expertise include managing program quality, interacting with parents, school administrators, and BASE staff, curriculum implementation and delivery, facilitation skills, behavior management skills, and relationship building.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Program Quality and Growth
- Responsible for implementing SIPPS lessons and weekly enrichment activities to promote individual child development.
Assess the needs and interests of individuals and groups and prepare instructional program activities accordingly, given the available materials, equipment or center.
In collaboration with the YMCA Reads! Program Director, develop curricula and plan course content and methods of instruction; evaluate and revise curricula as needed.Form relationships with school and BASE staff at program school sites to promote a team approach to youth mentoring.Tracks mentor and student attendance and behavior on a daily basis.Responsible for leading small groups of children and monitoring children during YMCA Reads! activities.Teaches reading lessons utilizing varied delivery methods.Accurately tracks and monitors student progress.Team Leadership
Partners, as needed, with key program leaders to remain committed to the YMCA's mission, safety and service to members, and the Tampa Y promise.Completes all job related and other trainings as required.Grant Administration
Ensure delivery of curriculum and all grant related metrics.Works with grant team to submit all required grant data in a timely manner Safety and Risk ManagementEnsures all Tampa Y program standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.Monitors programming to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health & safety regulations.Maintains confidentiality of students, parents, and faculty.Assists in all other areas assigned.
Requirements
Education / Experience Required :
Previous experience working with school-aged children in an educational settingPrevious experience providing literacy instruction / tutoring preferredStrong verbal and written skills, English proficiency is requiredUnderstanding of various learning stylesHighly motivated with the consistent ability to meet or exceed goals, cultivate and retain program participants.Ability to quickly build rapport and develop effective relationships with program participants and volunteersAbility to understand, adapt to and interact with diverse people, teams, perspectives and cultures.Proficient in using email, Internet, and other PC-based applications with the ability to learn and adapt to new technology.Certifications / Trainings Required :
Must obtain within 30 days of employment and then maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED and Oxygen Administration.Ability to successfully obtain Level II background clearanceMaintain other required certifications as needed for program delivery
Location : Belmont Elementary School, 12 hours per week, and will follow Hillsborough County Public School Calendar
