- High School Graduate or GED
Experience & Training Required:
- Ability to read and write English, follow written and oral instruction and perform basic mathematical functions
- One year previous experience preferred
Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
- Ability to work well within a team environment; by supporting team goals and encouraging other team members; and by collaborating with patient care team members to consolidate work, solve problems, create new methods, and/or reduce costs
- Ability to coordinate communication information for personnel, physicians, and patients
- Ability to work independently and solve problems without direct supervision
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with managers and staff in user areas (e.g., nursing staff, secretaries, nursing assistants, etc.) and Materials Management as well as external contacts
- Ability to operate a hand held calculator for inventory purposes
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with customers (i.e., assigned nursing unit personnel, internal and external customers)
- Must be able to work various shifts
- Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
Level of Physical Demands:
- Very Heavy: Exerts in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects
- Ability to stand/walk/drive for extended periods of time, frequent pushing, pulling, cleaning equipment and materials, loaded carts, furniture, and materials
- Potential exposure to odors, body wastes, specimens, blood, etc.
- Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens
