What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN - Oncology Office / Barberton position at Summa Health?
Provides general nursing care to patients in physician office or similar health-care facility following established standards of practice. In conjunction with Practice Manager, supervises clinical personnel and facilitates day-to-day operations within the Clinic structure as it relates to the clinical staff.
Formal Education Required:
a. Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Applicants with an Associate’s degree will be considered but are required to obtain BSN within three (3) years of employment
c. Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio
d. Meets continuing education requirements in order to maintain license
e. Chemotherapy certification through the completion of the Chemotherapy/Biotherapy ONS course-Must obtain within the first year of hire.
f. Certified through the ONCC as a Certified Oncology Nurse (OCN) –must obtain within the first 2 years of hire
Experience and Training Required:
- One (1) year of experience in a oncology clinic or physician office environment
- Experience with the coordination of patient care in the ambulatory setting is desirable.
Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
- CPR certification
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice, and medical care to five and evaluate patient care
- Knowledge or organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
- Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care
- Skill in taking medical history to assess medical condition and interpret findings
- Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence
- Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public
- Ability to maintain quality control standards
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in an emergency
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly
- Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
