What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scheduler - Weight Management position at Summa Health?
Oversees and coordinates pre-operative scheduling in the Department of Weight Management Care, to include reviewing and overseeing the patient’s initial orders, the addition of subsequent orders, periodic reviews of the patient’s progress toward readiness for surgery scheduling, and tracking of patients results from consultative groups; has primary responsibility for maintaining supplies for patient education, including inventory, ordering, tracking and receiving supplies – works with Director when changes are needed in any pre-operative patient education item; Collaborates with RN Case Managers and surgeons when a patient is ready to be scheduled for surgery, takes primary responsibility for all scheduling paperwork, for all scheduling, and for all patient communication; Completes all documentation in the electronic medical record; Maintains the patient photograph database, labeling and filing all photographs, and uploading them to the EMR. Performs faxing, word processing, organizing and compiling materials as they relate to pre-op scheduling; coordinating the ordering and stocking of nutritional retail product; Maintains the surgery scheduling database, entering all patient data in a timely manner, and revising as appropriate; Provides Director with reports as requested. Provides screening and rooming for new patients as needed. Conducts Surgery Planning Visits as needed.
Formal Education Required :
a. High school education or equivalent; Post-high school level coursework in healthcare or related field preferred
Experience and Training Required :
a. Computer experience - proficient in MS Word – MS Excel, MS Power Point, SMS, Tempus preferred
b. Two or more years experience in medical office or clinical setting
c. Knowledge of medical terminology.

a. Must maintain confidentiality of patient, employee, or financial records.
b. Skill in interpersonal communication to effectively interact in person and over the telephone with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital personnel.
c. Skill in alphabetical/numerical filing.
d. Microcomputer proficiency including at least MS Word; and willingness and ability to acquire such skill to operate application packages used by department (e.g., to enter and retrieve data, register and schedule patients, enter charges, and/or type routine correspondence).
e. Ability to perform in a work team environment.
f. Ability to effectively interact with all populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity, with a particular emphasis on patients who are overweight and/or morbidly obese.
g. Assumes accountability for demonstrating behaviors consistent with the customer service policy.
h. Consistently demonstrates excellence in attendance, timeliness, and reliability.
Level of Physical Demands:
a. May exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
b. Prolonged sitting, standing or walking for extended periods of time. Some bending, stopping, and stretching may be required.
c. Working under deadlines and pressure
