Position Objectives:
Summerville CPW is seeking a qualified candidate for a Construction/Maintenance Crewman position. Crewmen perform installation, maintenance and repair activities associated with the wastewater collection system, water distribution system and metering devices. Training is provided in areas where candidate is not proficient.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Completing paperwork
- Use of hand tools and power tools
- Light and heavy equipment operation
- General knowledge of material and inventory
- Locating underground utilities
- Installation, repair and maintenance of water mains, water services, fire hydrant, valves, fittings, and meters
- Installation, repair and maintenance of wastewater mains, wastewater services, manholes, cleanouts, valves and fittings
- Safety and specialty training
- Landscaping
- General carpentry, painting, pressure washing and demolition
- Acquiring system operator certifications
Minimum Requirements:
Applicant is required to have a valid SC driver’s license with a driving record that will not prevent the candidate from being able to acquire a Commercial Driver’s License with the assistance of on the job training from SCPW. High School diploma or GED equivalent, experience with any type of underground utility installation and backhoe operation experience are preferred.
