What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025/2026 School Year Martial Arts Instructor position at SUMMIT ACADEMY MANAGEMENT?
REPORTS TO: School Director
BASIC FUNCTION:
Teach the Therapeutic Martial Arts curriculum to the students adhering to the pre-established methodologies of the Summit Academy Therapeutic Martial Arts Program
EMPLOYMENT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must hold a certified rank of black belt in martial arts
- Minimum of two years’ experience teaching in martial arts classes
- An associate degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education, or be able to obtain and maintain Educational Aide permit though Ohio Department of Education
- Appropriate criminal records check as determined by Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation
- Ability to work with children who have special needs
- Ability to work with people
- Must be willing to attend regularly-scheduled training in Akron facility or other designated location

- Demonstrate skill in using a variety of methods and techniques to meet the needs of the students
- Have a thorough knowledge of the subject matter being taught
- Show an interest in his/her classroom environment

- Be enthusiastic
- Follow Summit Academy’s instructional design for the therapeutic martial arts program
- Follow Summit Academy’s Therapeutic Martial Arts curriculum
- Classroom Management
- Responsibility for the behavior and social skills of the students
- Model appropriate behaviors for students such as: patience, persistence, and self-control
- Track student behavior
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information
- Maintain a positive classroom environment
- Must be available to participate in after-school functions such as open houses, conferences or meetings
- Professional Growth
- Must demonstrate evidence of continued advancement in martial arts rank
- Must attend monthly Summit Academy martial arts in-service
- All other responsibilities as set forth by Martial Arts Director and CEO.
