Summary/Purpose
The Adult Education Extensions Coordinator is responsible for providing targeted instruction and academic support to adult learners who are working toward their high school equivalency through the GED or Adult Diploma programs. This position plays a critical role in assessing student needs, developing personalized study plans, and delivering both one-on-one and group instruction in various formats, including in-person and online. The Coordinator is resourceful, patient, and committed to making a meaningful impact in students’ lives, ensuring that each participant has the tools and support needed to achieve their educational goals.

Instruction & Curriculum Development
- Provide Instruction: Instruct adult learners in one-on-one, small group, and classroom settings, both in-person and virtually. Tailor lessons to meet the specific needs of each participant, ensuring content is accessible to individuals with varied academic backgrounds and learning styles.
- Develop Lesson Plans: Create and implement engaging lesson plans that align with GED and Adult Diploma standards, focusing on areas where students require the most support. Use diverse teaching methodologies to keep learners engaged and motivated.
- Customize Study Plans: Conduct thorough needs assessments for each participant who does not complete the GED within Summit's standard 10-week program. Based on assessment results, develop individualized study plans to address weaknesses and ensure steady progress toward GED or Adult Diploma completion.
- May provide support as a substitute instructor in the 10-week GED classroom and or Summit Prep Program, or offer supplemental tutoring to students who require additional academic assistance.
Student Support & Engagement
- Retention & Progress Monitoring: Foster a supportive, student-centered environment by providing academic guidance and emotional encouragement. Track student progress through assessments and attendance records, using this data to adjust teaching strategies and support retention.
- Portfolio Evaluation: Oversee the creation, assignment, and evaluation of tasks related to the Adult Diploma portfolios. Ensure that students are completing work that meets the program’s standards and that they are receiving timely feedback.
- Test Proctoring & Tutoring: Proctor GED exams and provide additional tutoring support where needed. This may include substituting in the 10-week GED classroom and or Summit Prep Program or offering supplementary tutoring sessions to students who require extra assistance.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain Records: Keep detailed and accurate records of student attendance, assessment results, and progress reports. Ensure all documentation complies with institutional standards and is kept up-to-date for program evaluations.
- Collaboration & Professional Development: Attend staff meetings, trainings, and workshops as required by the Program Manager. Collaborate with colleagues to improve program delivery, share best practices, and address any challenges.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Instructional Expertise: Demonstrated ability to teach adults of varying abilities and backgrounds, with a strong knowledge of adult education principles, GED standards, and Adult Diploma requirements.
- Communication & Presentation: Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts in an understandable way.
- Classroom Management: Strong skills in managing a learning environment, both in-person and virtually, ensuring that lessons are productive and engaging for all students.
- Problem Solving & Time Management: Ability to effectively handle decision-making, problem-solving, and time management in a fast-paced environment.
- Technology Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and capable of tracking student data in complex databases. Preferred familiarity with SiD and other educational software platforms.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office and classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as, computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands
This position requires the individual to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time while instructing or doing desk work. The person in this position will frequently operates computer and other office productivity machinery, such as calculators, copy machines, and printers. The person in this position constantly communicates with students while teaching, and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). It is not eligible for overtime pay. Days and hours of work are in-person Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some evenings and weekends may be required to meet the expectations of the position.
Travel
This position requires limited travel. Less than 5% each year.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or related field from an accredited college/University or equivalent professional experience.
- A minimum of two years of teaching experience, preferably in Adult Education.
Preferred Education & Experience
- Master’s degree in education, counseling, or related field from an accredited college/University.
- Current/Active Minnesota teaching license.
- Experience using SiD.
