Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree or coursework in an educationally related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Graduation of an Interpreter Training Program.
- A passing score on the EIPA Written Test.
- Current ODE licensure of Interpreter of the Hearing Impaired.
- Other qualifications the Board/Superintendent may find permissible for this position.
- Ability to effectively communicate classroom information between the teacher, the deaf student and other hearing students according to the language level of the student and the goals of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
- Clearly convey all aspects of meaning, content, and discussion. Ensure goal of lesson is clear.
- Work with student’s IEP team to implement plan. Provide feedback of implementation to team as directed.
- Fluent in and able to follow the modalities and language(s) that are determined by the educational team.
- Understand the student’s language skills and modify the classroom language to ensure that the student understands the concepts while conveying the message accurately.
- Understand classroom objectives to aid in success of student.
- Able to make appropriate use of fingerspelling.
- Facilitate and support participation and social communication during school day.
- Consistently monitor the student’s comprehension of the interpreted material.
