Job Summary
The Superintendent is responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of the construction project. The position schedules and oversees the work of subcontractors employed on the project and ensures the project is completed on time, within budget (i.e. the project position exercises and uses discretion to ensure, determine, and verify that all subcontractors employed by Summit furnish and install all necessary and specified materials, provide the necessary manpower and proper supervision, and complete their contracted scope of work per plans and specifications as provided for in each contract budget). Exercise and use discretion and independent judgment to ensure, determine, monitor, and enforce daily work performed by each subcontractor to ensure all work is completed in a professional manner in full compliance with OSHA safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution and Oversight:
· Lead and manage all on-site construction activities, ensuring the project progresses according to the established schedule and budget by coordinating with the Project Manager.
· Maintain construction schedule, identify and solve problems.
· Ensure an organized and clean jobsite including any on-site construction offices.
· Coordinate jobsite delivery and procurement with direction and supervision from the Project Manager.
· Facilitate inspections and permitting with office staff and municipality/building officials to ensure compliance with all building codes and requirements.
Team Leadership:
· Supervise and coordinate the work of subcontractors, laborers, and site personnel.
· Understand project contract requirements, plans, and specifications to ensure scope of work performed by subcontractors is complete and aligns with agreed upon parameters.
· Foster a collaborative and productive work environment on the jobsite, clients, and office personnel.
Documentation, Communication and Reporting:
· Maintain accurate project records, including daily logs, inspection reports, and change orders.
· Ensure all documentation is complete and up to date.
· Accurately maintain timesheets and expense reporting for recordkeeping purposes.
· Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, project managers, and other stakeholders. Provide regular updates on project status, issues, and resolutions.
Service, Quality, Safety and Operational Excellence:
· Maintain professionalism and respect to the client under all circumstances.
· Enforce safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment. Conduct regular safety inspections and address any hazards promptly.
· Manages job safety and safe work practices to ensure all personnel (employees and subcontractors) are adhering to company and regulatory safety protocols.
· Utilize organizational hardware and software tools across the field in accordance with company policies, procedures, and expectations.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED is required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field is preferred
· 3 years of experience in construction; preferably in commercial construction for a general contractor or subcontractor supporting commercial construction
· Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and regulations.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
· Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
· Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Physical and Travel Demands
· Transportation to and from project, including relocation for out of town projects when required across 26 state footprint
· Must be able to travel about all project areas which may require climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, working from suspended staging, stepping into and out of excavations, and varying heights.
· Must be capable of working in a variety of physical positions which include, but are not limited to, sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, walking and driving
· Must be able to lift, carry or otherwise move or position objects weighing up to 50 pounds
Working Conditions
· Work will involve exposure to varying noise and dust levels
· Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions which include, but are not limited to, extreme heat, humidity, rainfall, compliment of all seasons, combined with varying starting and stopping times.
· Position is subject to non-standard working hours (i.e. the working hours in the field may vary. Extensive travel, weekends as necessary when the project schedule dictates, and when designated by the customer, nights or evening hours)
