What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Production Supervisor position at Summit Materials?
Overview
Location: Newberry, FL
The Associate Production Supervisor’s (APS) prime objective is to be readily available to be the backup for the shift Production Control Supervisor (PCS), and in doing so, oversee the safe day-to-day operation of the Production department, meeting quantity and quality of products within specifications as set by the plant objectives. The scope of this position includes all activities of plant equipment operations and controls necessary to meet operational, safety and environmental requirements both in quantity/quality of products. Areas included are primarily Raw Grinding, Burning and Finish Grinding. It also includes the quality control of the finished product and other maintenance related functions such as plant cleaning, grounds upkeep, supporting refractory repairs, grinding media sorting and charging, and controlling cement and clinker inventories. It is desirable that the APS is fully ready and willing to take on a PCS role full time, should that become available, within 2 to 3 years. This position supports a good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adheres to and upholds all company policies, safety standards and federal / state regulations.

Cement industry experience or similar is preferred.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Support the PCS in training new hires that join the crew.
- Take leadership role in performing group LOTOTO’s during the shift.
- Support the PCS on day-to-day operations and equipment shutdowns, and running the crew each shift.
- Support activities of the department and interaction with other departments such as Environment, Quality and Maintenance.
- Promote safety by ensuring tailgate and safety meetings are held, developing the proper safety procedures, wearing required safety equipment, and following proper working environment and conditions.
- Establish and maintain communication within the department so there is continuity between different production teams.
- Oversee housekeeping activities every shift and any additional labor staff on weekends and after hours.
- When filling in for the PCS: conduct shift meetings; create notifications in the Maintenance system for items that need to be repaired; fill out the shift report.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.
Cement industry experience or similar is preferred.
- Knowledge of cement manufacturing process with good troubleshooting abilities.
- Leadership skills;
- The ability to work with cross-functional teams and influence decisions;
- Knowledge of process, maintenance, and production facilities;
- The ability to work well with others of diversified background.
- The ability to motivate others; and
- The ability to present ideas and reports clearly, both written and verbal;
- Organizational skills in order to manage both time and equipment;
- Good computer skills.
