What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Shop Mechanic position at Summit Opportunities?
General Description: Responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and service needs for farm equipment, tractors, fleet vehicles, semi-trucks and trailers, Summit Farms’ grounds and facilities.
Preferred Job Requirements:
Minimum 3 years of mechanical experience with a preferred agricultural background and/or relatable education. This individual must have exceptional organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and present the company in a professional manner while having good customer service skills.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Communicate with department managers and other Summit personnel to plan and coordinate tasks that need completed.
- Delegate tasks appropriately to other technicians to ensure work is done timely and effectively.
- When needed, communicate with outside service providers to coordinate work being outsourced.
- Assist in performing maintenance and repairs on all Summit equipment. This may include but not limited to the following:
- On road passenger vehicles
- On road semi’s and trailers
- Tractors
- Agricultural implements
- Feed delivery trucks
- Skid loaders
- Payloaders
- Diagnostic of mechanical systems.
- Various repair of general mechanical failures.
- Tire repairs and replacement.
- Various metal fabrication duties.
- Minor construction.
- Work with vendors to purchase supplies and parts in a cost-effective manner.
- All other duties assigned by manager.
Equipment/Tools/Materials Used:
- Utilize hand and power tools to perform maintenance on machinery and equipment
- Generators
- Utilize technology to communicate with internal and external customers
- Building equipment (i.e. ventilation system, etc.)
- Company Vehicle/Tractors/Manure application equipment
Physicality Requirements:
- Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers; handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.
- The employee must be able to continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks.
- Ability to frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
