STATEMENT OF THE JOB:
Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Mental Health Services, the AOD Counselor is responsible for providing AOD education and counseling services to youth in Summitview’s Residential and Outpatient Mental Health Programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides one on one AOD education and counseling services.
- Facilitates AOD psychoeducational groups.
- Primarily provides services to youth in Summitview’s residential and day treatment program, with additional time spent assisting the outpatient SUD treatment program, which could serve clients in the home, at school, or in the community.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicates with other agency staff, clients, and parents/guardians regarding interventions, integrated care and successful interventions for others to utilize with appropriate releases of information.
- Responsible for ensuring all documentation is completed in the electronic health record and input accurately in accordance with Summitview Child & Family Services’ policies.
- Meets agency billable service expectations.
- Other tasks as assigned.
LOCATION: Position will work in multiple locations including our Administrative offices in El Dorado Hills, our Outpatient offices in Placerville and in the community depending on client and agency needs.
HOURS: Position will work M-F between 8AM - 5pm with occasional evening work depending on client and agency need.
Pay Range: This position is an hourly, non-exempt role with a range of $23 - $28 per hour depending on experience and education.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted California Driver’s License; personal automobile liability insurance; and a driving record acceptable to Summitview’s insurance carrier.
- Must be willing to present a recent negative Tuberculosis test or be willing to take one.
- The COVID-19 vaccination inclusive of booster doses is strongly recommended but not required.
- Must be willing to complete and pass a Department of Justice (DOJ) personal background investigation to meet the requirements of our state licensing agency Community Care Licensing (CCL).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- CADTP, CCAPP or other AOD/SUD certification in good standing.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related Behavioral Health field from an accredited or approved college or university (e.g., social work, psychology, sociology, social welfare, etc.) with a minimum qualification of an associate degree.
- Two years’ previous experience providing AOD/SUD services preferred.
- Experience providing educational presentations to small and large groups preferred.

- Models of addiction of how addictions are formed.
- Alcohol and drug assessment tools.
- Familiar with multiple treatment approaches for variety of ages.
- Use of pharmacology in treatment and addiction treatment.
- Interaction of addiction and mental illness, or co-occurring diagnoses.
