Position Summary:

Responsible for the overall quality and delivery of patient/client care for the Intake Department. Plans, organizes, implements and directs the provision of services in the department. Supervises department staff. Ensures quality patient/client care that is in compliance with regulatory requirements, professional standards and the facilitys policies and procedures. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities. Collaborate with Business Office, Business Development, Utilization Management, HIM and Nursing.

Position Responsibilities:

Clinical / Technical Skills (40% of performance review)

  • Develops, implements and evaluates programs, policies and procedures to ensure that the department meets the needs of the patient/client population.
  • Ensures quality patient care is in compliance with regulatory requirements, professional standards, facility policies and procedures and local, state and federal law.
  • Participates in problem solving, policy forming conferences for behavioral health care services. Maintains close coordination with all departments of the facility to ensure continuity and collaboration of services.
  • Facilitates the provision of immediate attention to individuals seeking care from the facility, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.
  • Completes intake assessments and other departmental duties as needed to assist with patient/client care.
  • Intake assessment includes the evaluation of patients/clients illness; determines necessity of admittance as inpatients and/or facilitates the patients/clients access to outpatient services and programs based on the level of care that is needed.
  • Possesses knowledge of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) principles and techniques.
  • Performs all aspects of patient/client care in an environment that optimizes patient/client safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Provides for the documentation and trending of all referral source information.
  • Directs the development and implementation of staff development, in-services and orientation sessions.
  • Provides for adequate staffing to meet the needs of the department.
  • Develops and implements staff recruitment and retention strategies to provide optimal patient/client care in the facility.
  • Utilizes information provided by resources to improve services.
  • Assists in activities to better inform the community of the facilitys services.
  • Oversees the completion of all related forms, including the Release of Information form per facility and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Implements and monitors the performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities for the department.
  • Keeps Chief Executive Officer informed of status of the department and makes recommendations to improve care and how to increase cost-effectiveness of the department.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Ensures all reports are completed in an accurate, timely and informative manner.
  • Represents the facility by attending and participating in meetings, conferences and workshops with other mental health or social service agencies, educational institutions, professional and community groups
  • Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
  • Treats patients/clients and families with respect and dignity.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to the Chief Executive Officer, co-workers, medical staff and healthcare workers.
  • Develops and submits a budget for the department and monitors expenditures and revenues.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Responsible for personal growth and development through continuing education seminars, conferences, professional societies and journals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Integrity (15% of performance review)

  • Supports and demonstrates fiscal responsibility through supply usage, ordering of supplies, and conservation of facility resources.
  • Completes required trainings within defined time periods, as established by job description, policies, or hospital leadership
  • Exemplifies professionalism through good attendance and positive attitude, at all times.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and staff information, following HIPAA and other privacy laws.
  • Ensures proper documentation in all position activities, following federal and state guidelines.

Education

  • Required: Masters degree in Psychology, Social Work or other mental health field. May have a bachelors degree in nursing, with current state of employment license as a Registered Nurse. CPR and hospital-selected de-escalation technique certification.
  • Preferred: Current clinical license in the state of employment.
  • Maintains education and development appropriate for position.

Experience

  • Required: Five (5) years of clinical experience in a mental health setting.
