The role of Gallery Manager at the Sun Valley Contemporary Gallery in Ketchum, Idaho is a dynamic leadership position that combines administrative, sales coaching, and managerial responsibilities. The role requires an individual with an in-depth understanding of both business and art to manage all operations of the art gallery within the region. This person is accountable for ensuring the galleries operate smoothly, serving as enriching spaces for the public while remaining financially sustainable.
The Gallery Manager must balance the artistic integrity of the galleries with their commercial viability, customer satisfaction, sales growth, and fostering an engaging environment for both artists and patrons.
Key Responsibilities:
Increase Top Line Sales: Primary focus on increasing top line sales through customer satisfaction, logistics organization, and promotion.
Oversee Exhibitions and Marketing Programs: Assist, organize, and deliver exhibitions and programs across all galleries. Collaborate with artists, curators, and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality and innovative exhibitions for AIR, Social Media, and Mailers.
Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans to increase visitor numbers, enhance audience engagement, and raise the profile of the galleries in the community.
Budget Management: Responsible for budget management and yearly planning with the team. This includes overseeing financial results for the specific location, and attending the monthly financial meeting for Off Piste Fine Arts.
Cross Promotions and Collaborations: Identify and secure cross-promotion opportunities, concierge programs, and community engagement initiatives.
Staff Management: Oversee staff onboarding, training (with remote team assistance), and development. This includes hiring, training, managing, and firing gallery staff as necessary.
Health and Safety Standards: Ensure all galleries comply with the relevant health and safety standards.
Networking: Build and maintain relationships with artists, collectors, donors, community organizations, and other key stakeholders in the art world.
Logistics Assistance: Ensure all outgoing shipments are handled correctly with logistics leads, team members, and companies. This includes Return To Artist (RTA) management.
Hiring and Firing: At times, you may need to interview, hire, and terminate employees, with assistance from the Off-Piste Leadership team.
Travel: Occasional travel may be required for strategic meetings, collaborations, and introductions in locations such as Banff and Jasper.
Requirements and Skills:
- Previous experience in fine art sales, management, and leadership
- Ability to communicate, present, and influence all levels of the organization
- Proven ability to understand and manage the sales process from plan to close
- Demonstrated ability to articulate the distinct aspects of products and services
- Proficient in all systems and standard procedures within the organization
- Solution-oriented and forward-thinking
- Open communication and transparency
- Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of gallery business management including accounting, marketing, sales, and HR
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Pay: $28.00 - $45.00 per hour- Base plus bonus structure
