Job Description:

Perform duties to operate the loader in safe and efficient manner to move materials around and into Asphalt Plant bins as required and to maintain aggregate, milling, and sand piles as directed.

Job Duties:

• Check all fluids levels at the beginning of engine startup for the day. Continue to monitor gauges and fluid levels throughout the day during operation.
• Monitor the operation and function of the loader throughout the workday. Maintain an awareness of unusual noises or operations and bring any exceptions to the attention of the supervisor.
• Perform light mechanical adjustments and/ or assist mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment. Assist with the lubrication and fueling of the loader.
• The ability to perform a variety of tasks which may include excavating, loading trucks or bins, unload materials from trucks, grading, filling and backfilling, moving and loading earth, trash and debris, ripping up and moving curb and pavement and other tasks as required. Make grade cuts according to instructions and direction.
• Maintain orderliness of aggregate, milling, and sand stockpiles.
• The ability to make cuts in the area of known utilities without causing damage to any underground utility.
• The ability to operate the loader in a manner to assure the safety of personnel around the equipment, operate the loader on terrain and with loads in a manner to prevent damage to the equipment or injury to the operator the loader around structures, tools or equipment so as not to cause damage closely monitor the height and reach of the loader bucket so as to not damage surrounding structures or truck side boards.
• Keep equipment and tracks in a clean and orderly condition.
• Follow all safety rules and company policies and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience & Knowledge:

• Over 3 and up to 12 months to become familiar with the operation of the loader in a smooth and efficient manner and with the various job duties to be performed.
• Simple reference to use of machine gauges, operating levers and pedals as well as the ability to perform simple math for purpose of understanding grade.
• Ability to discern aggregate sizing.

Initiative & Ingenuity:

Exercise some judgment to operate the loader safely around people, structures and underground utilities and to monitor the operating conditions of the loader, complying with instructions and prescribed routines, methods or procedures and involving the making of minor decisions.

Physical Activity & Demand:

• Position requires the ability to climb into/on to/under machine, the ability to grasp control levers, to push and pull levers. Such physical activity to operate control levers is repetitive in motion of the wrist, hands and or fingers, position requires ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and the ability to perceive sounds and receive detailed information through oral communications, and to make fine discrimination in equipment noises which may indicate mechanical problems.
• Light physical effort required to operate the levers and pedals on the loader while being tossed around during operation and to clean the loader tracks, continuously lifting or moving very light weight material (under 25 pounds) or occasionally lifting or moving average weights (under 60 pounds).

Mental & Visual Demand:

Continuous and visual attention required to operate the loader around people, structures and trucks or to operate the bucket to a specific grade level, involving repetitive or diversified work requiring constant alertness or activity. Position requires visual acuity including depth perception and field of vision.

Responsibility for Equipment:

Responsible for preventing damage to equipment due to mistake, carelessness, incorrect process or procedures. Such mishaps could be costly in terms of repair/replacement of equipment as well as production time.

Responsibility for Material:

Responsible for material being moved in an expedient and safe manner, responsible for the safe movement of material which, depending or material, could be costly in terms of repair/ replacement of material.

Responsibility for Safety of Others:

Constant care necessary to prevent injury to others, due to inherent hazards, an accident, should it occur, would result injuries of a partially incapacitating natures such as loss of an arm leg or eye or severe health hazard.

Responsibility for Work of Others:

Responsible for own work.

Working Conditions:

Disagreeable working conditions with exposure to dust, dirt, seasonal temperatures, weather, machine noise, vibrations and jarring, several elements continuously present to the extent of being objectionable.

Hazards:

Injuries, should they occur, could result in partial incapacitation due to loss of arm leg, eye or severe health hazard.
