The Automation Technician is responsible for planning repair methods, installing equipment, performing preventive maintenance on equipment, repairing equipment as required in order to support the production department. This employee is able to diagnose problems and accurately estimate the amount of time and the equipment required to perform a repair.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are considered essential to this position. Other responsibilities may be assigned.
Install, maintain, and repair production equipment.
Plan maintenance and repair procedures. This will include power, electric, and electronic control.
Diagnose problems. Determine what repairs are required and what equipment, supplies, and skills are needed to complete the repairs.
Estimate labor required for assigned repairs.
Requisition or make components for assigned repairs.
Operate machine tools as required to install and repair equipment.
Assist with the development of a preventive maintenance (PM) program. Suggest PM schedules for equipment and assist with implementing the plan.
Document all work in a neat and legible manner. Ensure that all documents are kept in accordance with department procedures.
Demonstrate good communication skills with other maintenance technicians and with production supervisors.
Stay informed of new technology, methods, and materials within the field.
Support and comply with all Suncast safety policies, quality standards, and housekeeping methods at all times. Suncast policies have been developed to ensure compliance with employee law.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Tenth Grade education up to and including high school diploma plus technical courses preferred.
Minimum of two-five years of equipment and/or automation maintenance experience required. Workers at this level exercise limited independent judgment in making minor decisions to determine methods or procedures to be used. Work is controlled by frequent review and consultation with supervisors. Usually receive some instructions with respect to the details of most assignment but are free to develop their own work sequences within established procedures, methods, and policies.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in simple English. Ability to speak to managers, supervisors, and coworkers in simple English.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to learn to enter data in an existing database. Prior experience with a PC a plus.

This is a physically active position in a manufacturing facility. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, effectively communicate with others, and use active listening skills. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. He or she will occasionally be required to work 25 feet in the air on scaffolding or high lifts. Vision ability requirements for this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. This is a full-time position. However, due to variations in production schedules, this employee may be asked to work additional hours, including weekends, to meet additional demands.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be in a manufacturing facility. This will have variations in temperature and humidity seasonally, most notably in summer. Noise level is moderate for an injection molding facility. This employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Safety procedures must be followed to avoid the risk of electrical shock. Safety equipment will be worn regularly. Some travel to outside vendors may be required.
The Anticipated Pay Range for This Position: $20.00-$23.00 hourly
