Job Summary:
The Patient Access Specialist plays a critical role in helping patients access the medications and therapies they need. This position involves working closely with healthcare providers, patients, and payors to navigate insurance coverage, affordability challenges, and reimbursement barriers. Additionally, the role includes scheduling nurses and coordinating patient assessments to ensure timely and efficient care delivery. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct benefit investigations by verifying patient insurance coverage and navigating reimbursement barriers.
- Document and initiate prior authorization processes and claims appeals.
- Communicate benefit investigation results to healthcare providers and patients in a timely and accurate manner.
- Identify coverage restrictions and expedite patient access to medications.
- Assign cost-sharing solutions or refer patients to special programs/services as appropriate.
- Report reimbursement trends or delays in coverage to management.
- Ensure cases progress through the process efficiently and accurately.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients and healthcare providers.
- Schedule nurses for patient visits and coordinate patient assessments to ensure timely care delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to align schedules with patient needs and treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate records of nurse schedules and patient assessment outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma required; additional education in healthcare or insurance preferred.
- Experience:
- 3–5 years of benefit investigation or insurance analysis experience preferred.
- Pharmacy background, call center, or medical office experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with enrollment, pre-assessment, and benefits processes.
- Skills:
- Excellent verbal communication and grammar.
- Strong computer literacy and competence.
- Knowledge of health insurance guidelines, billing, and coding.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
