What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at Sunny Side Accounting (Rise & Shine Hospitality...?
Why We Exist
At Sunny Side Accounting, our mission is to provide on-time, accurate financials and HR services so hospitality operators can make smart business decisions based on real data — and stay focused on doing what they love.
We specialize in restaurant accounting, serving top-tier clients like Breakfast Republic, Breakfast Company, Fig Tree Café, and OX Coffee Roasters. We’re a boutique firm with a big heart, growing fast and building something special.
Our Core Values
We live by these every day:
- Scrappy – Resourceful, creative, and persistent.
- Resilient – When we get knocked down, we get back up, learn, and grow.
- Humble – We build others up, stay kind, and keep egos in check.
- Innovative – We improve what we touch.
- Ownership Mentality – We treat this like it’s ours — because we care like it is.
The Position: Accountant
We’re hiring an Accountant to own the accuracy and integrity of our multi-entity client’s books, support the month-end close process, and help build the foundation that powers client confidence. This isn’t just about crunching numbers. It’s about understanding what those numbers mean, communicating that insight, and continually improving our systems so we can scale with excellence.
What Success Looks Like:
If you’re the right fit, here’s what we’ll see:
- Clean, timely month-end closes — no scrambling, just smooth execution.
- Confidence in your multi-entity work — each client’s books are accurate and consistent.
- P&Ls and balance sheets that make sense — you’ve reconciled, reviewed, and validated the numbers.
- You spot and fix issues before they’re problems.
- Your work keeps the team moving forward, not chasing errors.
What You’ll Do:
- Own month-end close tasks: journal entries, reconciliations, and reviews.
- Ensure accuracy in multi-entity accounting for restaurant clients.
- Analyze and explain P&L and balance sheet activity, not just prepare it.
- Investigate discrepancies, cleanup balances, and improve processes.
- Support reporting, client-specific analysis, and process improvements that strengthen scalability.
The Type of Person Who Will Thrive Here
You’re the kind of person who:
- Understands what the numbers mean — not just how to book them.
- Works with structure and thrives in fast-paced change.
- Stay calm.
- Finds better ways and actually builds them.
- Communicates clearly, honestly, and often.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- 5 years of full-cycle accounting experience, including multi-entity accounting.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting for clients, including P&Ls, balance sheet accounting, and explaining financials clearly.
- High proficiency in Excel and accounting software (QuickBooks Online, Sage, etc.).
- Bonus: Familiarity with restaurant/hospitality accounting systems like R365, PlateIQ, Toast.
- Bonus: Experience with Sage Intacct is a big plus
