The Director of Dining Services assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of culinary services in all levels of living at Summit Square. Ensuring the needs of all residents are met while complying with local, state, and federal requirements and regulations.
In collaboration with community Administration, allocates department resources efficiently and economically to provide the best possible dining experience for residents in all levels of living. Collaborates with other departments, vendors, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop, support, and coordinate resident care, related administrative functions, and to represent the interests of the community.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Service or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum two years experience in a supervisory or managerial position in a related industry.
- Dietary Manager Certification (CDM) is required.
- Strong Verbal Communication and Computer Skills.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and meets driver eligibility requirements per Sunnyside Communities policy.
- Customer service skills; maintain a hospitality approach when engaging all individuals.
- Participate as an active member of the Summit Square Leadership Team. Assist with providing strategic direction for the community.
- Provide leadership, direction, and supervision for the team members within the department as well as giving support when needed ensuring all employees are achieving acceptable standards.
- Develop, interpret, and initiate policies and procedures for all aspects of Dining Services ensuring all state and federal regulations are followed while improving services for residents.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained with qualified and trained staff.
- Conduct all necessary training to ensure staff remains abreast of any regulatory/policy/training requirements for their position. Ensure appropriate new hire department orientation is conducted for all new team members.
- Complete performance evaluations for dining services staff by the proper due date.
- Establish purchasing/inventory control procedures and maintain the operating budget within acceptable benchmarks in conjunction with the Executive Director. Physical inventory is completed per corporate requirements.
- Supervise standardization of recipes, portions, and cost control to avoid waste.
- Handle resident and staff complaints/issues in a timely manner with a focus on excellent customer service.
- Analyze and comprehend principles of nutrition to develop and implement nutritious/attractive menus for all dining services venues.
- Ensure compliance with all rules and regulations of food sanitation, safety, and other related fields while maintaining positive survey outcomes.
- Establish and maintain open communication and positive work relationships with all departments of Summit Square. In addition, represents the community in a positive manner in dealings with all outside agencies.
- Work with the planning team to plan and coordinate special events and manage all catering events.
- Ensure all chemicals/equipment are being used safely and appropriately throughout the department. Chemicals and supplies are labeled appropriately and all staff are properly trained.
- Maintain all federal and state regulations including, but not limited to MDS’, care plans, service plans, and progress notes.
- Provide support and coverage for departmental staff when necessary.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Attend all in-services, training,s and meetings as required by company policies and Federal/State Regulations.
- Demonstrate a commitment to safety by following safety rules and guidelines; following good housekeeping practices, taking proper care of equipment, and performing job duties and responsibilities in a safe and responsible manner.
