Retail Manager
Position Summary
The Floor Manager at Sunnyside Gardens is responsible for assisting the General Manager with many aspects of garden center operations including, but not limited to: training and motivating employees; ensuring that the retail and production functions run efficiently and effectively; pricing, stocking, and displaying all nursery merchandise. The Floor Manager also assists with keeping the shop in neat, clean condition at all times.
Reporting Relationship
The Floor Manager reports to the General Manager and will supervise seasonal employees.
Position Duties
Continually build relationships with customers and promote excellent customer service, quality, integrity, and professionalism. Assist customers by ringing up their purchases accurately and promptly, carrying their purchases, selecting their plants and other products, and answering their questions
Train and develop seasonal staff. Ensure employees are performing duties efficiently.
Establish and maintain a level of credibility and trust that encourages employees at all levels to discuss issues openly. Set the tone for leadership consistent with Sunnyside Gardens mission and values.
Maintain grounds of the retail center and nursery including but not limited to watering plants, weeding, sweeping, etc. Ensure customers have a clean shopping experience.
Prioritize job duties and provide job lists for seasonal employees.
Continually expand plant and product knowledge in order to assist customers.
Communicate with co-workers and management in a clear and timely manner.
Properly maintain all equipment and immediately refer any problems to the owner.
Perform opening and/or closing procedures, as directed by General Manager and as needed.
Attend all meetings as needed.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Experience Required
Three (3) years of garden center retail experience required.
Experience and ability to work point-of-sale register required.
High School Diploma Required.
Must possess a valid drivers license.

Must be able and willing to work overtime with some weekends and holidays. Additional hours may be needed in peak seasons.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
Position Type and Classification
This is a full-time, non-exempt role and is eligible for overtime in accordance with the FLSA.
Physical and Mental Demands
Requires constant (67-100%) standing, walking, standing, and lifting of plants and nursery products of up to 50 pounds. Requires frequent (34-66%) reaching and occasional (0-33%) crouching while assisting customers. Requires the ability to operate forklift and trucks, to push and pull wheeled carts with nursery products, and to operate hand and power tools. This position requires the ability to operate a point-of-sale register along with excellent manual dexterity and visual skills. Must be able to work in and around high UV light, wet or humid conditions, fumes, heat, cold, chemicals, and high levels of noise. Requires constant mental alertness, concentration, corrected vision, and hearing to normal range. Requires the ability to communicate clearly. Must be able and willing to work overtime with some weekends and holidays. Additional hours may be required in the spring. Requires the ability to drive a vehicle. Must be able to wear/utilize required safety equipment when needed. Must speak English.
