Job Type: Full-time - 11.5 hour shifts (8 am-8 pm).
Job Title: Buildings & Grounds Tech
Location: 3935 Sunnyside Drive Harrisonburg VA 22801
Hours: Full-time, non-exempt. Days vary.
Position Overview & General Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of Buildings & Grounds Technicians are to address swiftly and complete maintenance requests, and necessary repairs throughout the Sunnyside Campus. This could include but is not limited to repairs, preventative maintenance, and facility operations support.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance tasks to identify and resolve potential concerns before they can disrupt daily operations.
- Complete work orders regularly, complete instructions for assigned tasks and essential daily functions; ask for clarification if information is unclear.
- Address and complete maintenance requests, and perform necessary repairs to various systems within the facility. Including but not limited to: electrical, plumbing, and general building upkeep.
- Ensure support for facility operations.
- Create and maintain a safe, efficient, and pleasant environment for all occupants.
- Record and report all time and materials used for projects.
- Safely use a wide variety of tools necessary for various jobs.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, complete within reasonable time frames.
- Assist with and/or complete emergency maintenance tasks, and obtain support if needed.
- Correct problems or recommend necessary contract services.
- Report and/or correct unsafe working conditions or equipment to supervisors immediately.
- Return all equipment to the proper location timely, and keep workstations and work sites neat and orderly.
- Assist with room set-up and tear-down for events.
- Assist with emergency drills; fire drills, elopements, etc.
- Remove snow and ice from campus roadways, driveways, parking lots, walkways, entrances, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in general maintenance/repairs is preferred.
- Ability to process information accurately, make appropriate decisions, and take appropriate action based on the information available.
- Must have basic working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and heating & cooling (HVAC).
- Current Virginia driver’s license and meets driver eligibility requirements per Sunnyside policy HR069 preferred.
- Strong customer service skills; maintain a hospitality approach to engaging with all individuals.
Physical & Environmental Considerations Work Environment: This job primarily operates in an indoor environment, with the potential of some outdoor work involved. Which could include temperature conditions, varying outdoor surfaces, and a wide range of landscaping grades.

The employee is frequently required to routinely sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 50 lbs or less and occasionally more than 75 lbs. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
Work Hazards: General hazards related to the operation of tools and functionality of maintenance systems on campus; varying surfaces that could be wet, icy, muddy, etc. Ability to use properly, as well as possible exposure to heat and cold. Minimal hazards if universal precautions are followed.
