Body Shop Painter - Kearny Mesa Chevrolet Non-ExemptJob Summary:The Body Shop Painter is responsible for applying paint and finish to vehicles, ensuring high-quality results that meet industry standards. This role involves preparing surfaces, mixing and matching paint colors, and performing touch-ups to achieve a flawless finish. Essential Functions: Clean, sand, and prime surfaces to be painted, ensuring they are free of imperfections. Remove or mask areas that should not be painted (e.g., windows, trim). Mix paint according to specifications, ensuring accurate color matching and consistency. Apply paint using various techniques (spray, brush, etc.) to achieve a smooth, even finish. Inspect finished work for quality and adherence to standards, making necessary adjustments as needed. Perform touch-ups and repairs on painted surfaces to correct any flaws. Maintain and clean painting equipment, such as spray guns and compressors, ensuring they are in good working condition. Follow safety procedures and protocols for handling paints and solvents. Work closely with body shop technicians and the Body Shop Manager to coordinate workflow and timelines. Communicate effectively with team members regarding project status and any issues that arise. Maintain accurate records of materials used and time spent on each job. Report any inventory needs for paint supplies to the Body Shop Manager. Relocate vehicles within the shop to ensure proper functionality after repairs and to facilitate workflow and organization throughout the facility. Maintain satisfactory attendance. Performs other related duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Previous experience as an automotive painter or in a similar role. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record; required to have California driver's license within 10 days following date of hire. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to perform all essential functions of the job description. Preferred Qualifications: Proficient in painting techniques, color mixing, and application methods. Certification in automotive painting or relevant vocational training. Familiarity with various types of paint, primers, and coatings. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to identify color discrepancies and make adjustments as needed. Good verbal communication skills for effective teamwork and collaboration. Ability to follow instructions and work independently. Physical Demands:  Frequently stands, walks, sits; uses hands; frequently reaches with hands and arms; frequently talks and hears. Occasionally climbs or balances; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, squats or crawls; occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity to handle tools and small parts. Must be able to work in tight spaces. Stand for prolonged periods of time.  Environment/Noise:  Work in well-ventilated and well-lit repair shop. Exposure to hazardous conditions and equipment that may result in minor injuries. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots may be required to ensure safety while handling parts and equipment. Work both indoors and outdoors.
