Job Summary:

The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Cytotechnologist, Pathology/Cytology. The successful candidate will:

• Performs clerical and cytopreparatory processing and screening analysis of all cytological specimens.
• Process patient samples for cytological procedures including examination, accessioning and result reporting.
• Screen patient samples and provide cytologic interpretation of Gyn Specimens.
• Perform clinical laboratory testing procedures.
• Communicate with physicians, nurses and other hospital personnel to ensure proper patient histories.
• Assist to ensure proper collection, processing and reporting.
• Maintain documentation as required by the regulatory agencies, including records of workload, patient follow-ups, quality control and assignments.
• Maintain quality control of equipment and reagents.
• Compliance with hospital policy regarding annual health assessment and mandatory in-service.
• Perform other job related duties based on business need, as the duties and responsibilities are not limited to the above description.

Required Qualifications:

• New York State Cytotechnologist License or documented eligibility required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent college credits in Medical Technology, physical or Biological science preferred.
• Experience in a hospital laboratory setting, including Cytology and ASCP certification preferred.

Variable Days; Variable Hours (Full-Time)
