Job Description:

The Leadership Development (LD) Manager is a full-time position in the SUNY Academic and Innovative Leadership (SAIL) Institute. The LD Manager serves a key role designing, coordinating, and measuring the impact of various learning programs to support higher education leaders within SUNY and beyond. The LD manager is responsible for all aspects of a program including the nomination/registration process, curriculum oversight, marketing and communication efforts, budgeting, speaker management, program assessment, etc. This position delivers some leadership content, both online and in-classroom.

LD Manager serves a lead role managing critical programs in the Institute's growing portfolio including, but not limited to, the Business Officers' Leadership Academy, the Hispanic Leadership Institute, Department Chair Academy, Leaders Learning Live, Mindful Leadership, and the Summer Leadership Program.

The LD Manager shares responsibility with the Director for implementing administrative policies and procedures. The LD Manager resolves day-to-day operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with the design of learning opportunities via a variety of delivery modalities (i.e., in-person classroom, webinars, asynchronous learning courses, training videos, etc.) for leadership development content tailored for higher education leaders;
  • Design of instructionally sound learning solutions for adult learners participating in workshops, seminars, retreats and so forth using industry standard and innovative methods;
  • Delivery of both in classroom and online leadership development programs;
  • Evaluate, analyze and report on impact of training solutions on knowledge acquisition and organizational impact;
  • Play a role in developing and ensuring SAIL brand standards with a focus on curriculum design, facilitator instructional guides and organizing a library of resources and program materials;
  • Manage the event registration system, in collaboration with the SUNY Center for Professional Development, and take lead on operational aspects of SAIL events;
  • Manage SAIL marketing and communication activities, including website maintenance, social media and email marketing in order to ensure opportunities are properly promoted across the system and beyond;
  • Coordinate logistics (e.g., event materials, travel arrangements, payment processing) for SAIL Leadership Development Consultants and fellows;
  • Schedule and organize meetings, including assistance in setting up conferences and/or working group meetings;
  • Assist in establishing office procedures and resolving day-to-day operational challenges;
  • In coordination with the Director, manage the operational aspects of the SAIL Institute, especially with regard to the hiring, onboarding and daily support and supervision of the Training Specialist and (up to 2) undergraduate through doctoral student interns;
  • Serve as a resource within the office and function as a key liaison with internal and external constituencies;
  • Draft correspondence as needed;
  • Coordinate correspondence and updates to be distributed to SUNY's Leadership Alumni network and other stakeholder groups;
  • Research and stay abreast of current trends in curriculum development, and implement innovative and effective solutions;
  • Manage and/or support special projects, as needed;
  • Track media coverage of major trends in higher education as reports issued by the major higher education professional associations;
  • Create and maintain strong working relationships between SAIL, System Administration, SUNY Center for Professional Development and SUNY's 64 campuses.
  • Maintain a network of resources within and beyond SUNY to identify and secure subject-matter experts
  • Work with the Director and Business Director to manage related financial transactions including extra service payments, procurement, invoicing, etc.
  • Develop and manage budgets for projects and programs
  • Provide Director regular reports for both programmatic and financial activity
  • Other duties as required


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate should have at least 3-5 years of progressive professional experience in developing, implementing and evaluating learning solutions
  • Demonstrated success working effectively with a broad range of constituents;
  • Must possess values supporting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging
  • The successful candidate will be supportive of learners, self-starting and goal oriented;
  • The right candidate will possess a team-oriented philosophy with the ability to multi-task projects and responsibilities;
  • The ideal candidate is highly organized and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously and working against tight deadlines;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint);
  • The candidate needs an appreciation of the role of a System Administration in a multi-campus public higher education system;
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and,
  • Possess ability to approach problems with creativity, innovation and exercise good judgment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with adult learners
  • Experience in higher education administration
  • Experience working at an institution of higher learning or SUNY campus


Additional Information:

State title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL3)

Salary: Minimum starting salary $60,000, commensurate with qualifications. Excellent Benefit Package which includes; NYS health insurance, free dental and vision, competitive retirement options, tuition assistance and generous vacation, sick and holiday accruals. Strong emphasis on work-life balance.

Must be available for limited (up to 10% travel) travel, including some overnight to deliver and facilitate programs. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and arrange physical classroom/meeting spaces is required, however accommodations could be made.

This position includes a 50% remote work option, in accordance with current NYS guidelines.

UUP position and works under the leadership of the Director of the SAIL Institute & Organizational Development.
