Unit: Management Confidential35 hours/week, 12 months/yearApplication Deadline: Open Until FilledPriority Screening: March 26, 2025Position Summary:SUNY Ulster County Community College, a two-year branch of the State University of New York located ninety miles north of New York City in the Catskill Mountains, is currently accepting applications for an Human Resources and Payroll Assistant.The Human Resources and Payroll Assistant reports to the Chief Human Resource Officer and provides day-to-day support of the Payroll and Human Resource operations for the College and provides administrative support to the Vice President for Administration and Finance and the Chief Human Resource Officer.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs Human Resources and Payroll data entry and employee file maintenance.
- Processes bi-weekly payroll data entry into Banner payroll software and excel rosters.
- Maintains employee leave accrual records, sick bank contributions and related reconciliations.
- Communicates with department supervisors to ensure timely and accurate timesheets are approved.
- Performs front desk reception and customer service functions by answering basic employee requests and questions concerning interpretation of Human Resources and Payroll policies and procedures, and serves as primary contact for the main Human Resources and Payroll email accounts.
- Performs a range of duties relative to the maintenance and processing of employeerecords including but not limited to retirement reports, payroll data requests and other payroll reports.
- Makes photocopies, orders department supplies, scans and emails documents; andperforms other clerical duties as assigned.
- Assists with job postings, and scheduling of meetings and interviews as requested.
- Assist in maintaining College organization charts and the employee directory.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of human resources and/or payroll experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite programs.
- Ability to work independently and with all levels of staff and faculty.
- Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive issues with professionalism.
- Commitment to community college goals and objectives of providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests.

- SHRM or HRCI professional certification.
