What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist position at SUNY Upstate Medical University?
Job Summary:
Functions as a Phlebotomist for the Department of Pathology in any location operated by the laboratory as a Patient Service Center or Limited Service Laboratory or when required at a patient's home. Performs Routine and difficult phlebotomies for patients as ordered by qualified providers. Uses EMR /LIS systems to create registrations, transcribe/scan outside physician orders, convert (if needed), release and accession orders and to contact providers. Identifies patients and labels specimens appropriately.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent and phlebotomy experience or graduation from an approved Phlebotomy program required. Typing, computer skills and interpersonal skills are required. Must have reliable means of transportation and a NYS drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Phlebotomy experience preferred, and basic understanding of medical laboratory technology and medical terminology desired.
Work Days:
M-F 8a-5p hours may vary weekends and holidays as needed
