Supervises: Executive Directors of Leadership and Staff
Primary Purpose: The Chief of Schools serves as a key strategic planner, advisor, decision-maker and problem solver. Responsible for supervising the Executive Directors of Leadership and staff members. Leads the educational performance of the district by establishing processes and helps develop the strategic direction for instructional leadership, school culture and school improvement initiatives. The major responsibility is to ensure significant student achievement gains at the school level as measured by school improvement data. The Chief of Staff will work in close collaboration with district leaders and various departments across the District to improve instructional quality and school culture with the ultimate goal of creating a high-performing learning organization.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
• Valid teaching certificate
• Valid principal certificate
• Bachelor’s degree
• Master’s degree in school administration or other related field
• T-TESS and T-PESS certification (or in process)

Experience:
• Minimum 3 years as a classroom teacher
• Minimum 3 years as a campus principal
• Minimum 5 successful years as a school administrator
• Minimum 3 years as a supervisor in a school district setting
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Work collaboratively with district leaders and the executive leadership team to implement the district’s Strategic Plan.
2. Serve as a leader and key member on the Executive Leadership Team focused on building coherence and positive relational trust while representing and advocating for the needs of all schools.
3. Supervise and develop the Executive Directors of Leadership to ensure high performing school teams and high performing schools that integrate a data-driven, equity focused, and multi-tiered approach.
4. Communicate with departments on a regular basis to ensure effective systems and structures are in place to accelerate a results-focus, efficiency, and drive toward student achievement goals of the Strategic Plan.
5. Strong knowledge of high-quality instructional practices and the ability to lead others to implement these practices consistently across all schools.
6. Maintain a cutting-edge awareness of the promising and successful practices and innovations in programs for teaching, learning, and school design that are emerging locally and nationwide while helping bring the knowledge and practices to the district.
7. Collaborate and assist the Executive Directors of Leadership to identify data and tools of highest use to schools and that best enable decision making;
8. Removes barriers or obstacles that make it difficult for the Executive Directors of Leadership to achieve goals and ensure they have the resources they need to succeed
9. Takes initiative to solve problems and create stakeholder buy-in
10. Assists and guides the Executive Directors of Leadership and school leaders in offering innovative solutions to seemingly intractable problems

Policies, Reports, and Law
14. Review and recommend appropriate policies, administrative regulations, and administrative practices for the areas supervised.
15. Implement the policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, local Board policy and regulations in the areas assigned.
16. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required including preparing and evaluating monthly financial statements and related budget reports, preparing quarterly and final reports for all federal funds and grants, developing semi-annual financial information for submission of data to TEA, and preparing and publishing comprehensive annual financial report in compliance with Association of School Business Officer (ASBO) standards.
Personnel Management
17. Select, train, evaluate, and supervise department staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
18. Develop training options and improvement plans for department staff to enhance the effectiveness of department operations.

19. Attend board meetings and make presentations when appropriate and/or requested.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and/or termination of the Executive Directors of Leadership and other department employees.
