OVERVIEW:
A Laborer assists other laborers, field supervisor or others to accomplish daily tasks which consist of a variety of manual labor functions and duties.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Regular and reliable attendance.
· Prepared and on time for scheduled shift with proper PPE.
· Engage in morning safety tailgate meeting and communicate safety topic with crew when needed.
· Perform and fill out pre-trip vehicle inspection before leaving the yard, check all fluids/tires/lights/ and all signs as listed on pre-trip.
· Perform monthly tool audits on equipment and ensure compliance (vehicle registration/ fire extinguisher).
· Follow and/or complete the JSA (Job Safety Analysis) and ensure crew actively participates, knows and follows each procedure.
· Help identify hazards on the job site by being aware of the dangers associated with hazardous atmospheres.
· Perform tasks assigned by Field Supervisor like; mitigate or eliminate hazards on the job site, dig ditches, mix concrete, pickup trash.
· Learn proper use and maintenance of various tools; gas monitors,
two-way radios, basic hand tools, lifting, rigging and binding equipment, shovels, slings etc.
· Be actively involved in Stop Work Authority, if necessary.
· Develop knowledge of ECI SOPs and refer to the SOP Manual prior to each task.
· Follow all Elite Constructors, Inc. safety, and customer policies and procedures.
· Shall perform all physical and mental requirements listed.
Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be 18 years old, have a valid driver license with clean driving record
- Self-motivated with ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and cooperatively with coworkers
- Must have the ability to exert heavy physical effort, lift heavy physical objects, kneel, crouch, balance, climb or crawl
- Frequently use hand tools, pneumatic tools (tampers, compactors, 60 & 90lb jackhammer, chipping hammer)
- Must pass a Drug Test & Background Check
- Ability to read and write in English
- Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions in English
- Ability to communicate with the public and or customers
- Knowledge of Lock Out/ Tag Out process
- Knowledge of Stop Work Authority (SWA)
- Knowledge of technology (iPads, cellphones etc.)
- Ability to read a tape measure
- Ability to recognize and use hand and power tools
- Ability to demonstrate basic construction safety rules
- Ability to be clean shaven to wear supplied air mask and work at high elevated platforms
Education and Experience
Preferably 1-2 years of related industry experience (6 months minimum) along with knowledge of tools.
Physical & Mental Requirements
Lifting/Pulling/Jerking/Grasping/Raising/Lowering: Must be able to lift, grasp up to 50 lbs. with the use of fingers, palm and wrists to hold and/or manipulate objects (hammers, saws, pencils, pens etc.) Must be able to raise and lower objects from one level to another. 66% to 100% of your work shift.
Squatting/Twisting/Bend/Reaching/Stooping/Squatting/Kneeling: Must be able to twist, squat, kneel and bend in various positions with or without objects. 66% to 100% of your work shift.
Pushing: Must be able to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force. 1% to 33% of your work shift
Carry/Support: Must be able to carry and provide support to objects, usually holding it in hands, arms and/or on the shoulders. 1% to 33% of your work shift
Body Positions; Supine/Seated/Standing: Must be able to work in a supine, seated or standing position. 66% to 100% of your work shift.
Working Conditions: The locations vary from site to site. Work is physically demanding and requires the ability to concentrate well on the job at hand, in all types of weather. Majority of the work is construction-based work. Walking and working surface vary depending on the terrain, from flat to extreme slopes and frozen, wet, snowy and slippery conditions.
Working Hours: Normally, a full-time employee will work 40 hours per week, depending on the factors such as weather and schedules. Work schedules and hours may vary depending on specific client locations and projects. In general, applicable work schedules include 5-8’s and 4-10’s. All labor laws in reference to rest breaks and meal periods will be followed.
