DEFINITION: Under supervision, this confidential, non-exempt, position performs professional financial analysis work; assists with fiscal and strategic analysis; performs analysis, design and implementation of official procedures, processes and systems and performs financial and accounting audits. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This is the entry and journey level of the Financial Analyst Series. This class is distinguished from the higher level Senior Financial Analyst class in that the latter may lead, train and assign the work of Financial Analysts and Financial Clerks and/or perform the more difficult, specialized and complex duties of the series.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following duties are normal for this position. Maintains financial and statistical records by posting transactions to journals and ledgers; adjusts accounts according to established procedures; reviews and reconciles accounting data Compiles and analyzes financial and budgetary data, statistics and other information to aid in program monitoring, evaluation planning and improvement as directedComputes obligations, and collects and verifies supporting documentation and approvals for payablesPrepares accounting systems documents (e.g. vouchers, encumbrances, warrants, transfers and checks) for approval and distributionAssists in preparing narrative, graphic and statistical reports with alternative methods for revolving issuesAudits financial accounts and validates expenditure claims; tracks and monitors compliance with budgets, contracts, grants and purchasing according to Judicial Branch guidelines as directedConducts regularly scheduled and year-end closing of account ledgers and booksReceives revenue payments and maintains accurate records of monies receivedAnswers financial inquiries from the public or court staffExpenses payroll; assists with the preparation of sensitive budget information that may be used in employee relations and labor negotiations as directed.Assist with budgeting as directedDistributes fines and fees; makes appropriate journal entries; issues receipts and balances cash drawers as directed; performs technical financial and statistical record keeping; sends adjustment transmittals to the County and/or State of California, when appropriate Other duties as assigned SUPERVISORY DUTIES: NoneWORK HOURSAs directed, per Division needs, including overtime.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems.
