Description of essential job functions:
Operates a 12 or 24 fiber ribbon line to produce a ribbon fiber in accordance with customer and Superior Essex specifications. Maintain finished product, sets up line in accordance with work instructions. Totally responsible for quality of end product
Sets up and operates all necessary equipment. Pulls fiber, handles dies, handle quartz tubes, load colored fiber reels, unloads and correctly identifies finished products. Performs quality checks on ribbon to include correct diameters, & quality test. Maintains clean work area in Ribbon department. Responsible for the compliance with quality standards.

- Equipment used:
- Pay offs, computer, PLC, counter, laser micro-meters, high speed take-ups, direct reading monitoring equipment, hand tools such as channel locks, dies, wrenches, razor blades, tip cleaners.
- Material Used:
- Colored fiber, inks, MEK, Acetone, Acylate, identity tags, masking tape.
In order to perform this job satisfactorily, applicant must be able to:
- Failure to comply with Work procedures or ISO Standards will result in excessive scrap or a low quality product and loss of materials. Should not leave machine until relieved by next operator
- Employee has up to ninety (90) days from date they start the job to demonstrate their ability to learn job.
- Duties require setting up machine, according to Work procedures, housekeeping
- Reading, writing, and simple math. A high school education desirable but not required
- Must be trained by a qualified instructor, follow Work procedures, and understand ISO requirements
- Operating methods well defined in Work procedures.
- Operating procedures defined in Work procedures, operator must consider various factors in making decisions. Supervisor is readily available
- Practices clearly outlined. Initiative required in adjusting quality during process
- Fill out defect tag.
Physical requirements of this job:
- Undesirable conditions include: Shards from fiber, bending, stooping, burns, fumes, cuts and punctures, must stand on concrete floor
- Exceptional color perception. Good physical condition
Physical effort exerted when moving colored fiber carts, & finished product. Otherwise light work sitting /standing.
