The Material Handler is responsible for managing the flow of raw materials, finished products, and scrap within the Metal Preparation department. This role involves collecting, organizing, and transporting metal parts and other materials to ensure a steady supply for production processes. The Material Handler will also assist in maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the work area to support safety and efficiency.
Essential Job Functions:
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow company safety procedures when handling materials and operating equipment, including forklifts or pallet jacks.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to 5S and safety standards.
- Ensure all material handling complies with company policies and OSHA regulations.
- Attend daily safety meetings
- Perform daily fork truck and crane inspections
Material Handling and Organization:
- Collect and transport metal parts, components, and scrap materials between workstations and storage areas.
- Ensure a consistent flow of materials to production lines, avoiding delays in the Metal Prep process.
- Monitor material levels and communicate any shortages to the Metal Prep and Material Handling Supervisor.
Inventory Management:
- Assist in tracking and documenting inventory levels, ensuing accurate records of material usage.
- Conduct regular inventory checks, reporting discrepancies and helping resolve inventory issues.
- Collect production using the retrieved list, stage it in the correct lanes, and label the pallets to ensure accuracy.
- Report any discrepancies (parts not found) directly to the Material Handling Supervisor.
Quality Control:
- Inspect collected materials for quality issues, such as damage or contamination, before delivering to production.
- Report any quality concerns to the supervisor to maintain product integrity and safety standards.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and effectively.
- Perform basic maintenance on equipment, such as cleaning and reporting any mechanical issues.
- Responsible for submitting necessary maintenance requests, as needed.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with Metal Prep team members, supervisors, and other departments to coordinate material needs and production schedules.
- Communicate effectively with team members to keep everyone informed about material status and inventory levels.
