Job Duties
Under general supervision of the Clerk of Court, supervises, coordinates, reviews and evaluates the work of an assigned unit performing a variety of court support work; develops work methods and procedures; recommends procedural changes; and to do related work as required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities – The Accounting/Team lead Supervisor is responsible for the bookkeeping, purchasing, financial payments, front counter of Chesapeake Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court Clerk’s Office. The Accounting/Team Lead Supervisor’s areas of responsibility include finance, bookkeeping, purchasing, financial payments ordering of supplies, overseeing the front counter, cash bonds, receipting and keeping all financial records for auditing. The Accounting/Team Lead Supervisor is responsible for the preparation of the bank deposits, reconciling of monthly statements, and preparation of the weekly and monthly accounting reports required by the Committee on District Court (CDC). The Accounting/Team Lead Supervisor instructs, coaches, and develops employees; fosters teamwork; and emphasizes the importance of customer service. The Accounting Supervisor works with both senior management and judges to ensure that staff are aware of district goals and objectives. This position primarily handles financial matters; however, the Accounting/Team Lead Supervisor will also serve as a floater for post court and pre-court, as needed. The Accounting/Team Lead Supervisor is an experienced professional with a high degree of knowledge in court operations and a recognized expert in specific areas. Requires independent problem-solving requiring analysis of unique issues/problems. The Accounting/Team Lead Supervisor interacts with and provides information to judicial officers, district court staff, the public, and the bar.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess proven bookkeeping or financial responsibilities to be considered for this position. Most competitive applicants will have juvenile court/criminal justice system experience, will demonstrate competence in areas of responsibility, and advanced knowledge of office automation systems and computer software required, particularly JCMS and FAS, as well as WORD and EXCEL, personnel management and communication skills for training, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated considerable bookkeeping experience or familiarity with posting ledgers, journal entries, cash processing, and ability to prepare (or assist the Clerk in preparing) required reports and budgets.
Additional Considerations
Court experience and experience handling money highly preferred.
