Job Duties
Under the supervision of the Clerk of Court or designee, performs a wide variety of customer service, courtroom, and administrative support duties for the Court by following established policies and procedures based on Virginia statues, rules, and local ordinances.
The Deputy Clerk (Grade 8) is assigned operational responsibilities in a high volume, fast paced office with frequent deadlines. Ensure court instructions are executed and legal documents prepared with accuracy and in accordance with state and local policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities – Duties include preparing detailed court documents in accordance with established guidelines, automated case management system data entry, scheduling matters for court, preparing correspondence, filing court documents, daily docket preparation and attending court sessions. Additional responsibilities include answering phones, assisting customers at the counter, accessing fines and costs, and receipt payments. Must be able to multitask and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Qualified applicants must possess a can-do attitude, be able to meet strict deadlines, and handle a high volume of paperwork. Favored applicants will be self-motivated, be able to work independently as well as part of a team and manage changing priorities. Preferred applicants will have attended college; have relevant judicial system experience in a similar position in a court setting; possess credible experience working in a trauma-informed environment; and have experience providing face-to-face customer service interactions in a challenging environment.
