Job Duties
Job Summary - The Deputy Clerk (Grade 8) is assigned operational responsibilities in a high volume, fast paced office with frequent deadlines. Ensures court’s instructions are executed and legal documents prepared with accuracy and in accordance with state and local policies. This position provides you the opportunity to gain extensive knowledge of the day-to-day operations of the Virginia judicial process. You must be committed to providing excellent customer service and enjoy working in a team-work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The Deputy Clerk will perform a wide range of complex clerical and financial tasks. Duties include docket preparation and Judicial support in Court ensuring court’s instructions are executed and carried out in accordance with the policies and judicial instructions. Duties also include but are not limited to automated case management system data entry, scanning documents, process and file correspondence and court forms, process the mail. Additional responsibilities include answering phones, assisting customers at the counter, accessing fines and costs, receipting financial transactions, and conducting cash reconciliation. Must be able to multi-task, meet strict deadlines and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by management. The selected individual must deliver a high degree of customer service to the public, interfacing agencies, external organizations, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Most competitive applicants will have knowledge of the court system. Applicants must be well organized, detailed oriented, have a positive can-do attitude, and able to follow and explain procedures, and have reliable attendance. Experience in handling money is a must. Promote positive work environment and able to follow and explain procedures in a clear and easy to understand manner. Possess the ability to manage competing priorities. Advance knowledge of office automation systems and computer software required. Discretion and integrity are a must in working with highly sensitive and confidential matters.
Additional Considerations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lifting, bending to retrieve files and standing/sitting for a long period of time.
