About the Position
As a Marine Educator for our Kids Full Day Camp programs, you’ll work with a team of educators to provide immersive, hands-on marine science lessons, ensuring a safe and enriching experience for campers (ages 6-11). This role includes leading engaging educational activities, supervising campers, and providing logistical support, including driving camp vehicles, equipment management, and setup/breakdown of camp activities.

Core Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise engaging lessons on topics like marine biology, ocean safety, beach ecology, wave dynamics, and barrier island and salt marsh ecology
- Facilitate hands-on activities like squid dissections and ocean safety drills
- Work closely with our leadership team and fellow educators to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all campers
- Oversee arrival and departure of campers, maintaining clear communication with parents
- Assist with daily camp logistics, including supply inventory, equipment maintenance, and camp area setup and breakdown
- Safely transport campers in 15-passenger vans
- Participate in team meetings and maintain a high level of communication with staff
- Serve as a positive role model, embodying responsibility, flexibility, maturity, and sound judgment
- Prioritize camper needs, ensuring safety and fun while providing a life-enriching experience
Requirements and Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- BA or BS in marine biology, environmental science, education, recreation, or a related field (or currently pursuing)
- At least 21 years of age
- Familiarity with southeastern NC marine ecosystems and organisms
- Physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs unassisted
- Ability to pass a 500-yard open-ocean swim test and tread water for at least 10 minutes
- Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certified (or willing to obtain)
- Availability for full summer program and mandatory training in early June
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Strong commitment to safety, learning, and fun
- Clean driving record and ability to pass a government background check
Desired Skills
- Batchelors’s degree in marine biology, environmental science, or a related field
- Wilderness First Responder Certification
- Experience in a camp setting or with outdoor education
- Surfing experience and a strong appreciation for ocean conservation

Program Duration:
The program runs from early June to early August. Mandatory staff training is required at the start of the season. Applicants should have the availability to work 7am to 4pm, Monday - Friday, from July 2nd to August 15.
