Job Summary:

The Visual Merchandiser is responsible for driving sales through creating and maintaining attractive visual presentations in display windows, focal walls, fixtures and shelves. May require following a floor plan to re-merchandise an area in preparation for seasonal changes or new product arrivals. Perform other duties as assigned quickly and efficiently and to a high standard.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Pull merchandise to set-up visual representations.
• Set-up and maintain display presentations using hand or power tools, such as saws, hammers, screwdrivers, staple guns, ladders, scissors, nails, spray paint, spray glue, and knives. Refresh fashion on mannequins on floors and in display windows.
• Maintain clean presentations with regular dusting and polishing.
• Maintain and present visual displays in a compelling and exciting manner in accordance with company direction.
• Understand customer preferences and exercise judgment when deviating from company direction to appeal to specific customer base or location.
• Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality is a must.
• Travel to multiple stores as needed in the assigned district on a weekly basis. Available to work Full Time with shifts of 8-10 hours a day and 5 days a week. Weekends would be necessary during new store openings.

Job Requirements:

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Additional education training in art or merchandising is preferred.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in big box retailer in merchandise presentation or visual merchandising is required and portfolio of work is preferred.

Travel and Flexible Schedule:

• Willingness to travel to multiple stores daily in an assigned District. Have reliable transportation to go between stores as well as a valid Driver’s License.
• Willingness to travel to other locations out of state that will require airline or up to 4-5 hours of car travel as well as several nights stay in hotels.

Communication Skills:

• Effective written and verbal skills, ability to interpret sales reports as well as instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to use computers as well as email.
• Actively participate in all store-related meetings, communicating merchandising and presentation standards, training the store team members to improve skills and standards.
• Reasoning Ability:
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound decisions.
• In partnership with management, continually analyze and respond to sales trends and develop and implement brand appropriate solutions to address unique needs.
• Physical Demands:
• This position involves heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands.
• Involves standing for up to 6 consecutive hours, lift at least 30 lbs. and the ability to carry 20 lbs. up a ladder or stairs.
• Will involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing high ladders. Will involve working in tight confined spaces such as display windows.
• Will involve reaching above eye level. Involves close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Other Skills:

• Must be creative and have a passion for engaging the customer in a retail environment.
• Customer service is a must and visual merchandiser should represent the Surf Style brand image in an engaging and friendly manner at all times.
• Basic knowledge of art, design, fashion, and interior decoration. Knowledgeable of current fashion and visual merchandising trends to interpret and apply to the Surf Style Brand.
• Ability to collaborate and function as a member of a team, work well with others and have a positive attitude.
• Must possess a strong sense of urgency and detail oriented to execute presentations to the highest of standards.
• Willingness to perform other duties as required that are necessary to support the business.
• Ability to work varied hours and days including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
