Surgery Center of Gilbert is a free-standing ambulatory surgery center specializing in ENT, General Surgery, Oculoplastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Plastic and Reconstructive and Urology.

 

Role Description

 

The Director of Nursing is an integral member of our leadership team and supervises all clinical activities of the pre-op, operating rooms, & PACU departments to provide optimal patient care and safety. Coordinates surgery scheduling with Chief Operating Officer to assure optimal efficiency of surgery scheduling. Works directly with anesthesia services/Medical Director to assure all cases performed in the Center are within the approved scope of services and physicians practicing at the Center have the appropriate credentials and verified credentialing process. Implements and directs the processing of patients throughout the many areas involved in surgical procedures. Works with the administration, pre-op, OR & PACU personnel to ensure adequate staffing levels. Directs the clinical operations of the Center consistent with Center approved policies, Arizona Department of Health Services (AZ DHS) guidelines, the AAAHC standards, and all other Local, State and Federal rules and regulations. Functions as the Center manager, along with the Director of Finance, in the absence of the Chief Operating Officer. Assists in the writing, reviewing, and revising of policy and procedures.  Functions as a coordinator for the QAQI program.  

 

I. POSITION DUTIES                      

 

  A. Personnel Management

·         Recruit/screen/hire top-quality clinical personnel

·         Ensures employees demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to provide quality patient care

·         Establish appropriate internal organization, and lines of communication, authority and accountability

·         Maintain high general morale commitment to customer service to internal and external customers

·         Conduct formal performance evaluations and pay increases with Chief Operating Officer’s approval

·         Administer overall employee policies and procedures

 

B.     Business Management

·         Responsible for clinical staffing benchmarks and proper staffing ratios

·         Monitors supplies, purchasing and inventory control

·         Assists in the purchasing of specialized medical/surgical instruments.

·         Establish overall work-flow and procedures to achieve maximum efficiency

·         Acts as a liaison between staff, patients, physicians and administration.

 

C.    Clinical Management


Supervises and directs all clinical care and maintains standards of care in accordance with Center policy and procedures, all applicable State and Federal rules and regulations including AAAHC requirements as evidenced by QAQI activities and direct feedback from medical and nursing staff

Reviews and revises standards of care, policies and procedures and objectives at least annually to reflect current practice and needs in the ambulatory setting and in keeping with applicable AAAHC requirements and all State and Federal rules and regulations

Coordinates with all personnel effective methods for improving patient care.

·       Coordinates the scheduling of surgeries in the OR in respect to surgeon, procedure and length of each case in order to assure the efficiency of the department

·         Ensures peri-operative staff communication to promote continuity of patient care

·         Delegate’s responsibility for clinical activities to professional nurses for immediate care of patients

·         Ensures availability of all equipment and supplies required for operation of clinical areas

·         Applies policies and objectives of the Center to ensure consistent quality of care.

·         Communicates patient care issues to promote and enhance patient care activities through regular meetings with Anesthesia personnel and Chief Operating Officer

 

Qualifications

·         BSN Degree preferred

·         Must have current Arizona RN License

·         Require current PALS, ACLS, CPR

·         Three years’ experience in the Director of Nursing role

·         Infection Control and Medicine knowledge

·         Strong background in Nursing practices

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Experience in healthcare regulatory compliance – preferred AAAHC
  • Current RN license in Arizona
