We have 12 different locations across North America in three different segments of the pulp and paper industry (Paper, Fiber and Recovery). Notably in De Pere, Wisconsin, Lévis (Quebec region), and the Montreal region, serving a multitude of customers throughout America.
THE ROLE
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing payroll processes and tax compliance.
This role ensures accurate payroll administration, maintains HR policies, and guarantees
compliance with labor laws and tax regulations. The ideal candidate has strong attention
to detail, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of payroll software and tax procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Payroll Specialist will report directly to the US HR Director and will be responsible for processing payroll, ensuring compliance with federal, assisting with benefits administration and related HR functions.
More specifically:
- Process payroll via Ceridian/Dayforce for all employee types, ensuring accurate wage calculations, deductions, and compliance.
- Update and manage payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and pay changes.
- Calculate, withhold, and file payroll taxes while ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Administer payroll deductions for benefits, retirement plans, and garnishments.
- Analyze payroll reports, streamline operations, and provide payroll-related training.
- Serve as the primary contact for payroll inquiries and ensure confidentiality in handling sensitive data.
- Ensure W-2 accuracy by verifying employee details, wages, and tax withholdings, and assist with corrections as needed.
- Support compliance and audits by providing required payroll records
- Manage state tax compliance by setting up new state tax accounts, handling state unemployment insurance registrations, and ensuring accurate tax rate updates in the payroll HRIS.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, human resources, or a related field (preferred).
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) from the American Payroll Association (an asset)
- 3 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-state or/and in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Ceridian/Dayforce
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll laws and tax regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
