JOB SUMMARY
The Sheriff's Department is currently seeking a Criminal Records Technician to join their team. Under general supervision, Criminal Records Technicians perform specialized technical and clerical duties in the maintenance and processing of Sheriff's department records and warrants; and perform office support duties for the Communications Supervisor.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned.
- Reviews Sheriff reports for information on crimes and offenses.
- Collects, documents, verifies, and updates monthly statistics and reports based on crimes and offense occurring in the County. Releases report copies in compliance to agency's policy.
- Initiates file procedures, enters data, and forwards warrants to the appropriate agency jurisdictions for service.
- Provides clerical support in the maintenance of Sheriff reports and records including typing and filing.
- Enters citation data into system.
- Maintains lists of activities involving the Sheriff's Department including stolen property, weapons permits, domestic violence, and wanted persons automated entries.
- Takes fingerprints for public.
- Prepares and renews concealed weapons permits, processes all permits; explosives, parade and solicitors permits.
- Responds to local agency checks for background information.
- Supervises volunteer personnel and R.O.P. students.
- Performs Spanish translation for dispatch and records transactions with Spanish speaking citizens.
- Process criminal offender registration such as narcotics/sex/arson and gang registrants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: Basic organization of a public safety agency; correct English spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Ability to: Gather and compile data for reports; learn laws, codes, statutes, and ordinance associated with assigned work and apply them appropriately; maintain effective record keeping systems; perform clerical duties as assigned; establish and maintain effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work; carry out projects with minimal supervision.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent to ensure the ability to read and write at a level required for successful job performance and two (2) years of recent progressively responsible clerical experience dealing with general public or related experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Essential Duties require the following physical skills and work requirements: Requires the ability to exert a small amount of physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another; some positions require sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as typing, filing, data entry, shorthand, and/or use of calculators, ten-key adding machine, or other office equipment or supplies; must be comfortable handling firearms for CCW permit verification.
