Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. Duties
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dressing, and mobility.
- Provide meal preparation and ensure proper nutrition according to dietary guidelines.
- Monitor and document vital signs as needed, reporting any changes to the supervising healthcare professional.
- Offer companionship and emotional support to clients, fostering a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
- Conduct patient observation to identify any changes in behavior or condition that may require attention.
- Administer first aid or CPR when necessary, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients.
- Support clients in participating in community activities and social events to promote engagement.
- Assist with hospice care as needed, providing comfort and support to clients and their families during difficult times.
- Maintain a clean and organized living environment for clients, adhering to health and safety standards.
Skills
- Experience in home care or senior care settings is preferred.
- Proficiency in meal preparation techniques that cater to individual dietary needs.
- Knowledge of vital signs monitoring practices and the ability to recognize abnormalities.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is highly desirable.
- Strong observational skills for patient monitoring and identifying changes in health status.
- Compassionate approach towards care with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to provide hospice care with sensitivity and respect for client dignity.
- Familiarity with home community care practices that promote client independence.
