Swain County High School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Athletic Director to lead the sports programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the school's athletic department, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and fostering a positive environment for student-athletes.
The ideal candidate will be a motivated leader passionate about developing student-athletes on and off the field. The candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and the community.
Responsibilities:
- Communicate, model, and uphold the standard of excellence required to be a Maroon Devil
- Manage and supervise all athletic programs, coaches, and staff
- Develop and oversee departmental budgets
- Provide quarterly fiscal updates to the superintendent
- Collaborate with coaches to schedule games, practices, and athletic events
- Ensure compliance with NCHSAA rules and regulations
- Coordinate fundraising efforts and community outreach
- Recommend for hiring, training, and evaluating all coaches
- Manage athletic facilities and equipment
- Serve as a liaison between the athletic department, school administration, and community
- Promote academic excellence among student-athletes
- Handle conflict resolution and disciplinary issues within the athletic department
- Serve as liaison and oversee athletic trainers
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Business, or related field
- Currently hold or be eligible to hold an NC Educator License
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in athletic administration or coaching
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws governing public school athletics in North Carolina
- Experience in budget management and fundraising
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required for athletic events
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Business, or a related field
- Successful head coaching experience
- Experience as a high school athlete
- Certification in athletic administration
Term of Employment:
Anticipated starting June 2025
- 12-Month Position (salary commensurate with experience, certifications, and demonstrated skills)
- Athletic Director monthly supplement based on coaching experience
Current head coaches are eligible to apply and will be considered, with the understanding that they must relinquish their head coaching role if selected as AD.
