Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery is a showcase for local farmers and food artisans. The Financial Controller plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the financial operations of SRCG. This position contributes greatly to SRCG’s mission by preparing financial statements, managing and communicating the budget and benchmarks, analyzing financial data, and implementing financial and policies and procedures and system controls. The Controller works to make sure SRCG continues to meet and exceed its mission while maintaining financial profitability.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for the overall financial management of SRCG including the creation, review and approval of monthly, quarterly and annual financial metrics and reporting
- Oversees budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and auditing of all SRCG financials
- Hires, trains, develops, reviews and holds accountable all Finance Department employees
- Manages the Financial Department and is constantly looking for and implementing efficiencies in workflow, technology to support job functions, and provides training to elevate team
- Monitors all accounting procedures such as coding invoices, accuracy in general ledger and all accounts receivable/payable activity
- Ensures compliance with financial regulations and standard as well as IRS tax code, federal, state and local legal requirements, GAAP standards, and remains informed on requirements through research of new and existing legislation as well as consultation of outside advisors
- Ensures all quarterly and yearly taxes are paid on time; accurately files required financial reports by deadlines
- Regularly monitors cash balances, cash forecasts and bank accounts
- Arranges for debt and equity financing, prepares loan proposals and participates in negotiating for financing as needed
- Prepares and presents regular financial statements to the Owners; advises Owners on opportunities and risks
- Monitors grant funded projects as well as grant project costs for reimbursement
- Prepares annual capital, operating and cash flow budgets with Owners
- Understands and mitigates key elements of SRCG risk profile; immediately reports risk issues to Owners
- Conducts and monitors reliable control systems throughout operations and regularly performs audits of systems and processes to make recommendations for improvements
- Monitors deviations from the budget and reports to Owners as needed
- Supports department managers by providing regular, relevant reports and analysis
- Establishes and maintains controls for suppliers
- Creates and monitors financial models, forecasts and budgets
- Works with Operations team to coordinate regular inventories of all product on hand
- Works collaboratively with Human Resources in the management of employee benefits and workers compensation insurance
- Advises Owners on financial related factors related to business expansion
- Maintains appropriate insurance coverage for all SRCG assets
- Develops performance measures that support SRCG strategic direction
- Prepares account reconciliations and underlying schedules for primary general ledger accounts
- Assists with the monthly accrual process including, but not limited to, working with other departments to estimate unbilled liabilities
- Evaluates and documents variances in P&L and Balance Sheet
- Works with department managers to develop budgets; provides finance related training to management while developing goals to promote financial accountability
- Is constantly analyzing current arrangements with purpose of identifying cost saving opportunities
- Is a primary resource for troubleshooting various issues both in Finance department and beyond
- Shapes the work environment through recognition, reward, discipline, conflict resolution and termination
- Complies to and ensures compliance of all related food safety, health & sanitation regulations, workplace safety, and weights and measures according to SCDHEC, other applicable laws and company policies and regulations as necessary.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 3 years experience as a Financial Manager or Controller strongly preferred
- Experience working within the food service and/or grocery industry preferred
- Must be a strong communicator, collaborator and be able to easily hone in on best solutions
- Must display excellent problem solving skills, adaptability, dependability and innovative thinking
- Must have expert working knowledge of Google Suite (Drive, Sheets, Docs) and Microsoft Excel and be willing to learn and use the Entrepreneurial Operating System
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements of the Swamp driving policy
- Must communicate through company designated platforms including, but not limited to Slack, Paylocity, Asana, and email.
- Is an active part of the Swamp Team so adheres to high standards of service, quality, and presentation
- Takes initiative to help any area of the business if possible

PAY AND BENEFITS
- Pay starts at $75,000 based on experience
- 40-45 hours per week
