Grounds Equipment Mechanic

Grounds Equipment Mechanic
Classification: Non-Exempt, Hourly
Reports To: Director of Grounds and Projects
Job Summary/Objective: The Grounds Equipment Mechanic will repair and maintain ground support equipment for the College
Essential Responsibilities:
- Repairs and services equipment including tractors and implements, backhoes, mowing equipment, weed eaters, chainsaws, and others
- Maintains heavy equipment including hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical machinery
- Inspects, assesses and troubleshoots equipment to determine necessity of repairs.
- Schedules periodic maintenance for support equipment and maintains repair log
- Maintains a clean, safe repair shop; and adheres to all safety protocols while working
- Tracks inventory of parts and tools
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 3 years related experience
- Excellent mechanical repair, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Eligible for training classes and seminars
- Ability to read repair manuals for various types of vehicles and equipment
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools to repair grounds support equipment
- Ability to follow instructions
- Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and clean driving record
Work Environment:
- Indoor and outdoor work
- Indoor work will include repair shop environment
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods to perform work on vehicles and equipment
- Ability to physically access vehicles and equipment of various sizes and structures using proper body mechanics to perform maintenance and repairs
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
