Sweet Briar College is a liberal arts college for women of consequence, located in the foothills of Virginias Blue Ridge Mountains approximately 12 miles north of Lynchburg and 54 miles south of Charlottesville. Job Title: Temporary Summer Library Worker
Classification: Non-exempt
Reports To: Circulation Supervisor
Job Summary/Objective: This position will cover customer service at the circulation desk as well as special projects in the stacks and archive. They also assist students, faculty and staff, and other patrons with all library needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Essential Responsibilities: Daily activities include checking items in and out, shelving, assisting patrons and routing queries to a librarian when needed, locating items on the shelf, shifting the collection, searching for lost and missing items, and assisting with special projects as assigned. Summer workers must maintain patron privacy as well as uphold all library policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous library and customer service experience preferred.
Work Environment: This is an office environment with prolonged periods of sitting. Daily bending, squatting, and lifting are also called for.
Physical Demands: Lifting up to 40 lbs. and pushing a cart of books weighing approximately 100 lbs.

Qualifications
Must have typing/computing skills as well as excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with coworkers and library patrons. Must be able to professionally handle dispute resolution. Must know Library of Congress classification system and OCLC ILS system. Must give attention to detail.
