Location: Richmond, VA (must live in Richmond or be willing to relocate)
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate reporting of business transactions in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Collaborate closely with the team to assist in month-end closing processes.
- Contribute to the annual audit process, including drafting financial statements and related notes.
- Research and analyze expense variances to provide actionable insights for company management.
- Plan, implement, and oversee the overall accounting strategy.
- Demonstrate strong skills in Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP).
- Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring timely and accurate completion of major projects, month-end, and year-end reports.
- Manage key accounting functions such as accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll, utilities, treasury, budgeting, cash forecasting, variance analysis, capital asset reconciliations, trust account statements, check runs, fixed asset activity, and debt activity.
- Monitor and analyze accounting data to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Set up and monitor accounting KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).
- Stay informed and research accounting issues to ensure compliance with GAAP.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of professional accounting experience.
- Experience working in a small business environment (annual revenue under $35 million).
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to take ownership of tasks and see them through to completion.
