What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Outreach Coordinator position at Sweetwater Center for the Arts?
The Community Engagement Coordinator primarily serves as the liaison to community partners and coordinator of all Sweetwater Center for the Arts outreach programming. Duties and responsibilities include developing relationships within the region and creating new and strengthened current outreach programs. The Community Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for programming in Sweetwater’s new art mobile unit, Sweet Ride, The Annual Mavuno Exhibition, and YAPP (Youth Arts Possibilities Program). This position requires a valid driver’s license and the willingness to drive a Ford microbus. (no special license required)

Key Responsibilities
YAPP Program, in partnership with Mark Rengers Gallery
- Collaborate with the Pittsburgh Public Schools art educators and administrators to select students to participate in YAPP.
- Coordinate transportation for students to and from YAPP.
- Select qualified educators to assist students in learning and applying artistic knowledge.
- Select an exhibiting artist to deliver talks and inspire students during the program.
- Design and adapt the YAPP schedule to complement and reflect Mark Rengers Gallery’s current exhibition(s).
- Oversee the security of exhibitions during YAPP activities, ensuring the protection of artwork and gallery property.
Annual Mavuno Festival for Regional BIPOC Artists
- Under the direction of the Director of Artistic Advancement, coordinate and execute all vendor applications for the Mavuno Festival
- Main Liaison for all vendors and programmatic and community partners in pre-planning and day of the event
Sweet Ride Mobile Unit
- Develop relationships with all community partners involved with the mobile unit
- Create and execute programming on the mobile unit
- Coordinate with the education department to schedule teaching artists for the mobile unit if necessary
- Order supplies for the mobile unit
- Schedule and attend summer and fall festivals for the mobile unit
Additional outreach responsibilities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and training required; experience in non-profit: Arts education, arts management, or art-related degree is preferred
- Strong communication skills and the ability to develop relationships
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with reliable transportation
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift objects of up to 30 lbs
- Capable of working a flexible schedule, including weekends
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Must pass the following clearances: PA Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Criminal History Record
