POSITION: Head Custodian
LOCATION: Swift Creek Elementary
SALARY: Pay Grade 60
REPORTS TO: Principal
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time - 12 Months
JOB GOAL: Performs a variety of tasks to ensure the school and campus are cleaned and maintained.
KNOWLEDGE AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Knowledge of the requirements of maintaining school buildings and grounds in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
- Must be able to lead, coach, and support the work of a custodial team.
- Working knowledge and experience in the methods, procedures, and chemicals used in cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing of school buildings.
- Working knowledge and experience in the care, safe use, and operation of custodial equipment.
- Basic knowledge and use of computers, including Google applications such as Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Forms, and Google Drive.
- Working knowledge and experience in entering work orders in the work order system.
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organization core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer-driven, and valuing diversity.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and establish and maintain positive working relationships with all school personnel.
- Knowledge of safety hazards, rules, regulations and assist in the implementation of the safety
program/precautions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as the lead worker in the cleaning of the school building and campus and oversees the custodial team in ensuring daily custodial tasks are completed.
- Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization.
- Provide feedback to custodial staff throughout the school year to ensure the high expectations of the custodial program are met.
- Works closely with the Lead Custodian to improve upon the site’s custodial services.
- Inspect facilities and grounds and contacts proper authority if fire, safety, or other related problems are evident or occur.
- Order and maintain custodial materials and supplies.
- Ability to use and instruct others in the proper usage of cleaning equipment and materials.
- Clean and maintain custodial equipment.
- Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
- Be motivated to produce high quality work.
- Ability to consistently follow safety precautions.
- Attend monthly Head Custodian meetings, and other district trainings, seminars, and special events.
- Assist in the set-up and preparation of school events.
- Moves and arranges furniture as needed.
- Ability to respond as needed to assist with emergency situations.
- Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to walk up and down steps in a building.
- Ability to carry, place, climb, and work on ladders of varying heights.
- Ability to regularly lift, move, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds of equipment/objects on a regular basis.
- Must be physically able to operate vacuum cleaners, scrub machines, carpet extracting machine, bathroom cleaning machine, buffers/burnishers, brooms, dust mops, mops, small hand tools, etc.
- Work involves pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, maneuvering in confined spaces, and prolonged standing and walking.
- Work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures and smells commonly associated with schools in general.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED from regionally or nationally accredited institutions.
- Two years of experience performing custodial work.
- Must be able to work flexible hours as needed to perform the duties of the position.
