The Lead Swim Coach/Deck Manager is responsible for overseeing swim instruction programs, ensuring the safety and progression of students, and managing the pool deck during operating hours. This role combines teaching, supervision, and administrative duties to deliver high-quality aquatic programs. The position works closely with and reports directly to the General Manager or Owner to align program execution with the swim school’s mission and goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction and Coaching:
- Provide swim instruction to individuals and groups across various age ranges and skill levels, following the established curriculum.
- Demonstrate and teach swimming techniques, emphasizing water safety and proper form.
- Evaluate students' progress, provide constructive feedback, and adjust teaching methods to meet individual needs.
Deck Management:
- Supervise the pool deck to ensure a safe and organized environment during swim lessons and activities.
- Coordinate with instructors to maintain class schedules and efficient transitions between sessions.
- Enforce safety rules and respond promptly to emergencies or incidents, administering first aid or CPR as needed.
Staff Supervision and Training:
- Assist in the recruitment, training, and mentoring of swim instructors and lifeguards.
- Conduct regular evaluations of instructional staff, offering feedback and professional development opportunities.
- Lead in-service training sessions to ensure staff adherence to safety protocols and teaching standards.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress reports, and incident reports.
- Assist in developing class schedules, program offerings, and special events.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress, program information, and any concerns.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; higher education in a related field is a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a swim instructor; prior supervisory experience preferred.
Certifications:
- Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong swimming skills with proficiency in various strokes and techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, parents, and staff.
