Position Title: Swine Farm Manager
Job Status: Full-time/Exempt
Reports To: Production Supervisor
Overview: The Swine Farm Manager is responsible for managing farm operations, achieving breeding and farrowing goals, and overseeing employees.
Daily Operations
- Supervise feeding, hydration, and environmental conditions.
- Oversee animal identification and transportation.
- Ensure farm cleanliness and health monitoring.
- Manage semen inventory and AI procedures.
Breeding & Gilt Development
- Coordinate sow and gilt movements with the farrowing department.
- Manage gilt inventory, heat checks, and pregnancy confirmations.
- Oversee AI and heat detection processes.
- Implement best practices for gilt development, vaccination, and acclimation.
Farrowing & Piglet Development
- Ensure accurate piglet counts and genetic identification.
- Schedule processing, vaccination, and weaning.
- Manage piglet quality, cross-fostering, and transportation.
Biosecurity & Compliance
- Train staff on safety, biosecurity, and regulatory compliance.
- Enforce biosecurity protocols and conduct weekly audits.
Employee Management
- Train and develop employees in production processes and record-keeping.
- Set performance expectations and foster teamwork.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and problem-solving sessions.
Administration
- Maintain production records.
- Manage feed, medication, semen, and supply inventory.
- Oversee environmental controls, herd health, and manure management.
- Ensure equipment and facilities are maintained.
- Submit weekly farm reports and weaned pig projections.
- Set and pursue short- and long-term farm goals.
- Assist the Production Manager with budgeting and financial oversight.
Leadership & Professionalism
- Maintain a positive work environment and lead by example.
- Represent the company professionally in all interactions.
Organization Relationships
- Interacts closely with farrowing and breeding leads, production manager, veterinarians, human resources, and general office staff.
- May interact with farm ownership.
Physical Demands
- Required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to move through the farm.
- Required to have the ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, climb 4-foot gates.
- Required to have the ability to manipulate (life, carry, move) medium to heavy weights of 50-75 pounds.
- Required to have satisfactory hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.
